Interpreting the Manning Roughness Coefficient in Overland Flow Simulations with Coupled Hydrological-Hydraulic Distributed Models

چکیده

There is still little experience on the effect of Manning roughness coefficient in coupled hydrological-hydraulic distributed models based solution Shallow Water Equations (SWE), where affects not only channel flow basin hydrographic network but also rainfall-runoff processes hillslopes. In this kind model, takes role concentration time classic conceptual or aggregated modelling methods, as case unit hydrograph method. Three different approaches were used to adjust order fit results with other methodologies field observations—by comparing resulting formulas, by runoff hydrographs obtained models, and water volumes observations. A wide dispersion coefficients was observed be generally much higher than common values open hydraulics.

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

investigation on the effect of the seasonal changing of manning roughness coefficient in forecasting flood hydraulic behavior (case study:haraz river)

there are different methods for controling the flood damages which one of them is flood zoning. in this method, flood zones are determined by simulating river hydraulic behavior and its flood plain for different return periods.in other hand, soil and specially plant coverage are the most effective factor to determine manning roughness coefficient. so it is expected, seasonal plant coverage chan...

Overland flow: interfacing models with measurements

Van Loon, E. E., 2001. Overland flow: interfacing models with measurements. PhD thesis, Wageningen University, The Netherlands. 185 pp, 75 figs, 39 tables, 5 appendices. This study presents new techniques to identify scale-dependent overland flow models and use these for ensemble-based predictions. The techniques are developed on the basis of overland flow, rain, discharge, soil, vegetation and...

An ANFIS-based Approach for Predicting the Manning Roughness Coefficient in Alluvial Channels at the Bank-full Stage

An intelligent method based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for identifying Manning’s roughness coefficients in modeling of alluvial river is presented. The procedure for selecting values of Manning n is subjective and requires judgment and skill which are developed primarily through experience. During practical applications, researchers often find that a correct choice of the ...
